Who is Joe Bary and What is the Idea Behind Panic Away?

Panic Away by Joe Barry is an online program that claims to be able to treat and prevent panic attacks naturally (without medication) and quickly.

WHO IS JOE BARRY?

Joe Barry (his actual full name is Barry Joe McDonagh) was born and rasied in Ireland. He holds an undergraduate degree from UCD (University College of Dublin). He is clear about the fact that he is not a psychiatrist or a psychologist. He was, however, a sufferer of chronic panic attacks during his college years. Having become quite frustrated with the regular treatments for panic attacksthat seemed to lead him nowhere, he created and published his now popular panic away system in early 2001.

WHAT IS PANIC AWAY ALL ABOUT?

The basic idea behind Panic Away, according to Joe Barry, is to deal with panic where it begins – the small fear reactions that start the whole cycle. The idea is that if you can learn to control these emotions right when they start, when they are still small and manageable, you can prevent the episode from escalating into an all out attack .

To accomplish this he has come up with a number of techniques. One of the central techniques is referred to as the One Move Technique. It attempts to teach suffers a very precise set of actions they are to take the very moment they feel that the panic attack cycle may be beginning. He gives clear instruction on the ways in which to apply this move in various situations to deal with different types of triggering fears such as fear of driving, fear of flying, fear of public speaking, and many more.

The second main part of the system focuses on what can be done to prevent panic attacks long before they begin. The main idea in this case is to reduce the general daily background anxiety, thereby reducing or eliminating the "fuel" for panic attacks. The techniques discussed here are exercise, diet changes, and others .

The third main section of the guide focuses on how to make sure the patient’s newly learned ways of dealing with panic become habitual. Learning to stop panic attacks when they are about to start or learning to reduce general background anxiety is a good start, says Joe Barry, but where many people fail is in making the new ways of thinking a habit. If you learn how to make the new behaviors a habit, you are more likely to succeed long term.

CAN IT HELP YOU?

Some of the methods in the program are based on simple common sense solutions that you may have overlooked. Others are based on years of trial and error by the author. Overall the information is clearly laid out and easy to understand.

Overall, the system gives you a framework for understanding all the factors that can contribute to a panic attacks as well as specific techniques to deal with each of the factors.

If you can commit yourself to understanding the material and experimenting with it to find out which specific techniques suit your particular situation, the program can definately be a big help.
